Campaign: Targeting Aerospace and Defence
PTC helps manufacturers, service providers, publishers and government organisations to develop products with its product lifecycle management and enterprise content management software. In the UK, the company is especially strong in the aerospace and defence sectors, and wanted to highlight its ground-breaking work with Airbus on the development and manufacture of the high-profile Airbus A380 super jumbo aircraft.
To reach the IT and aerospace trade press, the Weber Shandwick technology team created a photo-story case study to show PTC's solutions in action. This was distributed to journalists to coincide with key dates in the A380 programme, including the first test flight in 2005. The message was that PTC solutions allowed the geographically diverse suppliers of the thousands of components making up the aircraft to work together with virtual 3D models, ensuring seamless assembly when the parts came together.
Positive coverage was achieved in the US and across Europe, including the front page of target publication Computer Weekly, as well as Aviation Week and Aerospace Engineering. It was the first time PTC had been covered in these titles, and it was successfully positioned as a key technology facilitator in the A380 project. The campaign paved the way for a similar approach to be used for reaching the media in PTC's other main markets, automotive and outsourcing.
